GenEx Letter

Dear Author,

First of all: Thank you for writing for me! I cannot even begin to tell you how excited I am to see what you write. :)

Secondly: Optional details are, of course, optional. Don't worry if none of these prompts do it for you and you decide to write your own thing. Sometimes the best gifts are unexpected.

Things I adore
-Hurt/comfort is my jam. Want to write that Canadian Shack fic you've always longed for? Want to write someone coming down with the space!flu and everyone taking care of them? Want to write someone carrying their partner through the wilderness? Go for it!
-long plotty things;
-adventure/case fic;
-worldbuilding, especially how things like magic interact with daily life;
-people who genuinely like each other (but refuse to show it on the outside);
-outsider POV;
-comic relief characters who reveal unexpected depths of competency when pushed to their limits;
-characters who have been in bad situations-- imprisoned, trapped, tortured, whatever-- learning how to be people again, and how to adjust to real life;
-characters bravely soldiering on through injury or illness;
-snuggling, oh my gosh;
-found families;
-people who are hilariously bad at feelings

Things I'd prefer to avoid
-extremely graphic violence/injury descriptions or permanent injuries;
-killing off characters (unless it's canon);
-please no claustrophobia-inducing scenarios (i.e. trapped in a coffin or whatever). Although not an actual trigger, they do make me anxious!
-Issue fic;

FTR, I really don't care whether it's in first or third person or past or present tense (I don't generally even notice), so go with what works for you.

Batman - All Media Types: Dick Grayson & Jason Todd, Tim Drake & Jason Todd, Roy Harper & Jason Todd, Stephanie Brown & Tim Drake & Dick Grayson & Jason Todd & Damian Wayne, Stephanie Brown & Jason Todd, Jason Todd & Cassandra Cain, Jason Todd & Bruce Wayne

I am really fascinated by the way Jason interacts with the rest of the Batclan, especially as time goes on and he isn't quite so caught up with the revenge narrative. He's hurting and angry and his morals are a little bit skewed but these were and still are people he loved, and I want to see how that plays out. I also would love to see him getting to know the new members, who have never known him as anything but what he is now.

Vorkosigan Saga: Gregor Vorbarra & Ivan Vorpatril, Ivan Vorpatril & Mark Vorkosigan, Gregor Vorbarra & Ivan Vorpatril & Miles Vorkosigan, Ivan Vorpatril & Miles Vorkosigan

As you can probably tell from the requests, I'm quite fond of Ivan. I really love his relationships with his age mates-- he provides the perfect foil for them. Gregor and Ivan are great because while they don't get a lot of interaction in the books, what they do get is so telling, especially in CVA (that familial exasperation; that hug!). I think, fic-wise, I am most interested in how they start to work together as they get older, as Gregor settles into his Emperorship and Ivan becomes more willing to be seen being competent. (I natter on a bit more about these guys here, if you want to read it.)

For Ivan and Miles, I love how Ivan is perpetually put-upon, asked to do Miles' dirty work (not that Miles isn't also right there with him). I also think it's interesting how this relationship changes as they get older, and Miles has his own Armsmen to rely upon so he doesn't need Ivan so much-- is this something Ivan is disappointed about?

Ivan and Mark didn't grow up together, so I would really love a look at them getting to know each other-- that scene in the gazebo was one of my favorite parts of the series.

The Martian: Chris Beck & Mark Watney, Rick Martinez & Mark Watney (AMT), Alex Vogel & Mark Watney (AMT), Mindy Park & Mark Watney (AMT), Mark Watney & Ares III Crew (AMT), Beth Johanssen & Mark Watney, Melissa Lewis & Mark Watney (AMT), Annie Montrose & Mark Watney (AMT)

Oh my god, I love Mark Watney. I love his snark and how he SCIENCES THE SHIT OUT OF THINGS and how he keeps up a good front even though he's in an incredibly shitty situation. I love the scientific accuracy. I love that his crew is willing to commit mutiny to help him. I know everyone and their mother has written post-book fic, but even so, I can't seem to get enough of it. I would love to see how they deal with coming back from Earth, or deal with being on Earth again. I want to see them supporting Mark through his recovery (and I want to see Mark supporting them, too). Do they go on, like, an epic restaurant-hopping journey once they get back on Earth? How do they deal with the media? Does anything go wrong on the trip back?

Ronin Warriors: Kento & Ryo, Kento & Mia, Ryo & Mia, Rowen & Kento, Rowen & Ryo

Oh man, where do I even start with this one?? RW is one of my very earliest loves, from way back in the day when it was playing on Cartoon Network. I love all of the Ronins. I am super flexible with this fandom-- I'd be happy to get anything. That said:
-I love the interaction of the real world and the mystical. How do their armors and their connections to the elements and to each other affect their lives afterwards?
-How do you move on from spending however many months of your life fighting a mystical war? What do they do afterwards?
-Kento and Ryo both share a terrible tendency to rush into things without looking. What happens when they get in over their heads?
-Kento and Rowen are basically diametric opposites. I'd love to see more of them leaning how to work together.
-I'd also just love slice-of-life fic; everyone doing their thing, occasionally interspersed with fighting mystical creatures.

Young Avengers: Teddy Altman & Tommy Shepherd (Young Avengers), Billy Kaplan & Tommy Shepherd (Young Avengers), Molly Hayes & Tommy Shepherd (Young Avengers), Kate Bishop & Tommy Shepherd (Young Avengers), Eli Bradley & Tommy Shepherd (Young Avengers), David Alleyne & Tommy Shepherd (Young Avengers)

As you can see, this is another series where I have a type. *g* I really love Tommy's interactions with the rest of the group-- he's the outsider and I don't think the others really know what to do with him, even though they clearly care about him (I mean, they spent however many months searching for him!). I would love some follow-up on that arc besides just 'let's have a dance party!' I would also love something just showing how he fits into the rest of their lives.
We shall not cease from exploration
And the end of all our exploring
Will be to arrive where we started
And know the place for the first time.
Through the unknown, unremembered gate
When the last of earth left to discover
Is that which was the beginning;
At the source of the longest river
The voice of the hidden waterfall
And the children in the apple-tree
Not known, because not looked for
But heard, half-heard, in the stillness
Between two waves of the sea.
Quick now, here, now, always—
A condition of complete simplicity
(Costing not less than everything)
And all shall be well and
All manner of things shall be well
When the tongues of flame are in-folded
Into the crowned knot of fire
And the fire and the rose are one.
