This year was actually more of a real test of my ability to win this than last year was. Last year I had almost nothing going on: a minimal class load, little homework, nothing major going on in my life... it was pretty much the ideal time to start. This year, I'm in grad school, have massive amounts of homework to do, have a part-time job, and my grandpa died halfway through-- and yet I managed to win. A day earlier than last year, no less. If I can win under these circumstances, I have no excuses in the future. This is something I really can do.


So, yeah. This year's novel is dedicated to my grandpa. He totally thought NaNo was a dumb idea, so I figure it's a fitting memorial.

Wow, I've been pretty bad at keeping this updated, huh. Well, here's today:

A little ahead, for once, which is nice. I'm going to SC for Thanksgiving and I don't know how much time I'll be able to spend writing there, especially since there's no internet where I'm staying. I can sometimes snag some other apartment in the building's wireless, but it's not easy. I also have an insane amount of homework due right at the beginning of November, much of which requires an internet connection-- no clue how I'm going to get *that* done...

2500 words in two hours. Not bad, not bad at all. I've made up for the day I missed and then pulled ahead a few hundred words as well.

This whole being able to write fast thing is very new to me; I wasn't able to go anywhere near this speed last year. Still not entirely sure why that is, but I'm definitely not complaining...

Ack, I haven't updated in a while, have I. Oops. At this point I'm kind of despairing for my plot, so I've decided to just write whatever and not worry too much about staying within my (admittedly pathetic) outline. Ah, well.

Yeah, I'm a little bit behind, but I'll make it up tomorrow. I had to take yesterday off because my grandpa died.

I can't actually remember how much I wrote yesterday. o.O Not very much, I don't think. 600 words or so?

Today:

12,692 / 50,000 (25.4%)

I'm 25% done, and yet my plot has yet to make an actual appearance! Ack. I have a feeling this thing isn't going to be done at 50k...

Anyone else having this problem?

So, it's about that time of year again! This is spark_force, for those of y'all who are confused, and once again I'll be using this journal to post about my NaNoWriMo progress this November. If you had this journal friended from last year and no longer want to watch it, feel free to remove it; if you still want to stick around, awesome!

This year the theme is: superheroes! It's going to be more along the lines of Runaways/Mystery Men than Superman, really. I've come to the conclusion that I'm constitutionally incapable of writing characters that aren't normal, awkward people despite their situations. Also included: snarky best friends, people throwing bricks off buildings at other people, my first real attempt to write romance, and a fifty foot-tall something or other attacking the city.

Should be fun!

...I'm actually done. Holy crap, you guys. I finished. It sucketh mightily, and yet I totally love it. But I'm done. Done done done. Where has this month gone? I don't get it. I can't believe it's over already.

I realized I haven't posted anything here in a week or so, so: current status is ~45,000/50,000, and I am on track to win. Yay!
